Deaf/Hearing Impaired Teachers are expected to:

  • Have the ability to work with a diverse population of students
  • Administer standardized and informal diagnostic tests to assess the strength and skills of individual students for education prescriptive purposes and for goal setting, evaluation and assessment purposes
  • Consult and collaborate with all individuals involved with the education of the student
  • Record and report student progress
  • Carry out treatment program as identified through evaluation and IEP, maintain appropriate and accurate documentation regarding assessment, planning and treatment outcome

  • Translate or interpret into sign language all academic and non-academic activities and reverse interpret as needed
  • Instruct students with the use of an interpreter
  • Document student behavior and use an interpreter on a daily basis
  • Tutor hearing impaired student in subject area of mainstreaming
  • Meet consistently with classroom teacher to determine vocabulary which may need prior explanation
  • Meet on a regular basis with appropriate teacher/consultant of the hearing impaired
  • Assist classroom teacher with normal classroom routine when not interpreting
  • Dress in a manner which will assist the student with reading signs

Duties include, but are not limited to:

SUBSTITUTE REGISTERED NURSE: 10-Month School Calendar Position                                        

RN positions involve caring for the medical needs of students placed in BOCES classrooms which are located in a Special Education Host Site program. Assistance with all medical aspects of the students’ day is expected.

  • Plans for periodic examinations and screening procedures as required by State Law and Board of Education Policy.
  • Assists the School Physician with physical, visual, audio screening examinations of students and employees.
  • Administers first aid and emergency treatment to students and employees.
  • Performs medical procedures prescribed by doctors for students .
  • Appraises the mental and physical health status of pupils through observation and analysis of records on a continuing basis.
  • Assists in feeding and care of students with disabilities
  • Prepares, maintains and shares information on Cumulative Health Records with appropriate staff.
  • Arranges transportation of sick or injured students or employees to hospital or home.
  • Orders inventory and oversees the storage of first aid and related health supplies and equipment.

SUBSTITUTE LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE: 10-Month School Calendar Position                                                  

LPN positions involve caring for the medical needs of students placed in BOCES classrooms which are located in a Special Education Host Site program. Assistance with all medical aspects of the students’ day is expected.                                 

Students need assistance with areas of daily living skills which may include, but are not limited to:

  • Personal care
  • Feeding - may or may not include tubal feeding 
  • Monitoring during and after feeding
  • Toileting - may or may not include diapering
  • Maintaining safety during transitions
  • Redirection
  • Task initiation
  • Communication
  • Interacting with others and supervision of sensory activities and routines
  • Regular assessment of respiratory needs
  • The employee must possess a valid NYS Licensed Practical Nurse license and be physically able and willing to meet the needs of the students.
  • Dispensing medications, under direction of R.N.
  • Completing Medicaid paperwork, under the direction of R.N.

SUBSTITUTE POSTION 

Hours per day are dependent upon student’s Individualized Education Program, location, and classroom.  A Teacher Aide must be physically able and willing to meet the needs of all the students within the classroom, which may consist of the following:

  • TCI is required for all Teacher Aides positions
  • Helps teacher monitor class
  • Aid disabled children from bus to classroom and return
  • Assists individual students with work on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, following teacher’s instructions
  • Helps students during lunch periods, gym, music, etc
  • Helps physically disabled student(s) to carry out prescribed physical exercises
  • Helps disabled student(s) with daily living skills/hygiene
  • Follow medical protocol (seizures)
  • Carry out all other teacher designed and supervised activities
