Job Description

Full-time (1.0 FTE) position; 8.0 hours per day, 12 months per year

The following work activities are listed as examples only and in no event shall an employee be limited to only those examples listed here:

  • Plan, organize and develop procedures for computer installation engaged in the volume production of a variety of reports and statistical data;
  • Manage data applications; primarily financial, HR, Payroll, and Inventory systems;
  • Write and compile various programs, reports, and Excel spreadsheets;
  • Analyze data systems and make recommendations regarding future information systems needs;
  • Check and review jobs, reports, programs, application management systems;
  • Confer with Systems and Programming personnel and assists in establishing operational programming and reporting;
  • Set priorities according to established guidelines;
  • Confer with user departments and/or agencies regarding data input/output responsibilities to insure efficient use of computer system and accuracy of data and reports;
  • Operate computer report writers, database software and peripheral equipment;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Civil Service Title
COMPUTER OPERATIONS SPECIALIST
Job Qualifications

This is a competitive Civil Service position.  The selected candidate must possess this title, be among the top three of a binding Civil Service Certificate of Eligibles List for this title, or be among the top three after taking the required Civil Service exam for this title.

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associates Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Technology or a closely related field and two (2) years of experience in computer operations which shall include developing and maintaining a database and/or working with spreadsheets that includes formulas; or Graduation from high school or possession of a general equivalency diploma and completion of a computer related certification and three (3) years of experience in computer operations which shall include developing and maintaining a database and/or working with spreadsheets that includes formulas; or Graduation from high school or possession of a general equivalency diploma and four (4) years of experience in computer operations which shall include developing and maintaining a database and/or working with spreadsheets that includes formulas.
  • Requires a strong accounting background with an understanding of School District Accounting and HR principles; proven expertise in Excel (including the compilation/manipulation of data; ability to train users through visual/verbal presentations and written instruction; ability to work well with others and independently; ability to understand and follow detailed oral and written instructions; ability to apply knowledge of computer technology to solve problems and enhance operating systems; sound oral and written communications skills; a high degree of logical reasoning and resourcefulness; great customer relations/communications.  The successful candidate   develops, consults, and coordinates computer systems supplying a variety of financial, HR, Payroll, Inventory management, and statistical information.  Work involves responsibility for creation of systems, processes, and maintenance of schedules with minimal error in content and volume. Responsible for various aspects of the information system, including training end users, creating reports, establishing security rights, and producing reports.

 

SALARY RANGE:  $32,000 - $40,000, commensurate with work experience.  Plus comprehensive benefit package.
