Job Description

LOCATION:  Bush Education Center

Full-time position (1.0 FTE), 8 hours per day, 12 months per year

 GST BOCES is seeking an Operations Communications Specialist to help support the regional Cisco VoIP network. 

The following work activities are listed as examples only and in no event shall the employee be limited to only those examples listed here:

  • Cisco Call Manager system administration
    • Adds, moves, and changes including end user management and password resets
    • Incoming and Outgoing call routing, Managing call queues, hunt groups, call pickup groups
    • Assist with maintaining and updating VoIP servers and applications
  • Cisco Emergency Responder (CER) server administration
  • Cisco Unity Connection Manager Administration 
    • Voicemail account setup, and system call handler administration (Auto-attendants)
    • Time of day call routing and scheduling, message aging policies and implementation
  • Fax Server Administration
    • Daily monitoring of incoming and outgoing faxes and oversee the setup of fax mailboxes
    • Work with Carrier to PORT new fax numbers to faxing PRI
  • Provide backup support for lead technician for the administration of Jabber, WebEx, and VeraSMART (Call Accounting)
  • InformaCast system administration and district paging
  • Support the VoIP Team Leader in troubleshooting and maintaining the GST BOCES Regional VoIP Network.
  • Possess skillset for analyzing and troubleshooting network related issues involving voice, video and data communications on a Cisco network 
  • Configure, maintain and troubleshoot Cisco Voice Gateways (routers) for remote survivability (SRST), paging, faxing, etc.   
  • Maintaining thorough documentation of network and applications, processes and procedures
  • Ensure excellent customer service by working efficiently, meeting deadlines and customer expectations
  • Exhibit excellent people, communication, and self-management skills and display a desire to work in a team environment and with others
  • Any other job-related duties as assigned

 

 

Civil Service Title
OPERATIONS COMMUNICATION SPECIALIST
Job Qualifications

This is a competitive Civil Service position.  The selected candidate must possess this title, be among the top three after taking the required Civil Service exam for this title.

  1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered two (2) year college or university with an Associate's Degree in Computer Science or related field and one (1) year of data processing experience; or
  2. Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and three (3) years’ data processing experience; or
  3. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
