Job Description

Part-time position (.5 FTE), 4 hours per day, 12 months per year

  • Provide publicity for BOCES and member districts to community at large; act as media liaison, traveling to schools to cover events (includes taking pictures)
  • Provide crisis communication; writes statements/letters for media and public; coordinate media communication; act as spokesperson
  • Create newsletters, calendars, catalogs, brochures, flyers and other promotional literature, which may include writing copy, layout and design work
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications

This is a competitive Civil Service position.  The selected candidate must possess this title, be among the top three of a current Civil Service Certificate of Eligibles List for this title, or be among the top three after taking the required Civil Service exam for this title.

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree with one (1) year experience specializing in Media, Communications, English, Journalism, Humanities or related field, plus one (1) year experience in public, print, audio or electronic media communications  OR 
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered two (2) year college or university with an Associate’s Degree with specializing in Media, Communications, English, Journalism, Humanities or related field, plus three (3) years experience in public, print, audio or electronic media communications  OR
  • A combination of education/experience
  • Working knowledge of desktop publishing skills, computer skills, writing skills; good knowledge of publicity principles and methods; good organizational ability; skill in the performance of public relations activities; possession of good verbal and communication skills; ability to be effective in communicating with large groups; ability to work well with the students and staff; creativity; initiative and resourcefulness
