Job Description

PART-TIME, HOURLY POSITION, AS NEEDED                                        

• Assist with the operation of the Adventure Based Learning Program
• ABL Facilitators should have the ability to perform their required duties for extended periods of time while exposed to inclement weather
• Show competency in the technical skills associated with the challenge course operation, including knots, belay skills and personal protective equipment such as harnesses and helmets
• Display leadership in debriefing and closure for each element and low activity
• Demonstrate confidence when speaking in front of groups. This includes participants and other staff members.
• The facilitator will be responsible for ensuring the safety of each client participating in the course and demonstrating a clear understanding of risk involved in each activity
• Inventory and maintain equipment before and after each event
• Must be able to clearly instruct the facilitation of games, initiatives and challenge course activities
• Responsible for the completion of daily paperwork documenting operations and properly handling incidents, per BOCES policy
• Demonstrate the ability to use sound judgment to ensure safety on all parts of the course throughout the program
• Ability to handle unexpected circumstances and have a good understanding of group management
• Must be team oriented and dedicated to the goals set forth by the GST BOCES Adventure Based Learning Program
• Ability to work with diverse groups of people and group sizes
• Complete daily inspection of Ropes Course elements
• Proper setup and take down of Ropes Course elements and storage
• Other duties as assigned

 

Job Qualifications

Valid NYS Physical Education Teaching Certificate or Valid NYS Career & Technical Education (CTE) Certificate or In-depth, comprehensive & relevant work experience in Experiential Education
