Job Description

Full-time position (1.0 FTE), 8 hours per day, 12 months per year; Competitive Civil Service Position

  • Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot Cisco equipment in a LAN/WAN environment including enterprise wireless, routers, and switches.  Ensure that all devices are running on current firmware.   
  • Support the wireless infrastructure including all wireless controllers, access points, and management software. 
  • Support the Telecommunications Lead Technician in troubleshooting and maintaining the GST BOCES Regional Network including Application and ISP Load Balancers, core routers, switches, transceivers, Internet, network connections, new equipment installations and network subnetting.
  • Planning, installation, configuration, maintenance, support, and optimization of hardware, software, and telecommunications solutions and services.
  • Possess skillset for analyzing and troubleshooting network related issues involving voice, video and data communications, and structured cabling infrastructure (fiber/copper) to optimize network performance. 
  • Maintain thorough documentation of network and applications, processes, and procedures, including creating, maintaining, and updating network drawings.
  • Ensure excellent customer service by working efficiently, meeting deadlines and customer expectations.
  • Exhibit excellent people, communication, and self-management skills and display a desire to work in a team environment and with others.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of network security, subnetting, network and WAN backbone design, VLANS network protocols such as: Quality of Service (QoS), Multicast, EIGRP, OSPF, Spanning Tree, Tunneling, and Trunking.
  • On the job training will be provided. 
  • Cisco certifications such as CCNA or other network/security certifications desired.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications

This is a competitive Civil Service position.  The selected candidate must possess this title, be among the top three of a binding Civil Service Certificate of Eligible List for this title or be among the top three after taking the required Civil Service exam for this title.

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered two (2) year college or university with an Associate Degree in Computer Science or related field and one (1) year of computer/network support experience; or
  • Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and three (3) years computer/network support; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

                                            

SALARY:  Per Non Unit contract.  Plus, comprehensive benefit package
