LOCATION: CANASERAGA CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
The Canaseraga Central School District is seeking an outstanding educational leader to fill the position of Superintendent of Schools. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of raising student achievement and building trust in the communities they have served to support all learners. The ideal candidate will:
- demonstrate strong leadership ability and is comfortable leading instructional initiatives;
- communicate openly, honestly and effectively with all stakeholders;
- have an understanding of rural education and is an advocate for all children;
- have experience with fiscal management, personnel management and collective negotiations;
- be viewed by the Board and the community as being invested, honest and a person of high integrity;
- have experience in long range planning, goal-setting, and facilities projects;
- become involved and visible in the life of the school community.
Residency in the district is preferred, but not required.
OUR DISTRICT AND OUR COMMUNITY
Canaseraga is located in the northeast section of Allegany County in the Southern Tier of New York. Canaseraga is a rural community that is within easy travel distance to Hornell and Dansville, as well as the Finger Lakes Region. Residents and visitors alike enjoy recreational activities such as boating, skiing, hunting, fishing and hiking. Specific attractions include the Swain Ski Center and Letchworth State Park.
Students at Canaseraga receive a well-rounded education that focuses on academics, arts and extracurricular activities. A large majority of our 11th & 12th grade students participate in a vocational or New Visions program through GST BOCES. Our elementary school has an evolving curriculum with an emphasis on helping each child achieve his or her highest potential. Students have repeatedly scored among the highest in the GST region on NYS assessments. Our high school offers a variety of Accelerated College Education (ACE) courses, with college credits earned through Corning Community College. Students participate in various clubs, drama, instrumental music, and chorus. Two particular highlights are our archery and robotics programs. Our athletes compete in our combined Arkport-Canaseraga Wolves athletic program. The program includes over 35 teams for girls & boys over the levels of modified, JV, and varsity. Some of the opportunities for advanced education in the area are Houghton University, SUNY Geneseo, Alfred University, Alfred State, and Keuka College.
