This is a competitive Civil Service position. The selected candidate must be among the top three of the Library Automation Assistant Civil Service Certificate of Eligibles List, if not currently holding the title.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:
- Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree and/or one (1) year of experience; OR,
- Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with an Associate's degree and three (3) years of experience; OR
- Graduation from high school or possession of equivalency diplomas and five (5) years of experience in a library setting with a variety of software programs, circulation and purchasing; OR,
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the above.
Essential knowledge, skills, and abilities: This is a technical position responsible for supporting school library technology. An employee in this class will provide support related to library automation and related library software. This includes providing technical expertise for library automation software, creating and editing MARC records, developing tutorials and training materials, facilitating the interlibrary loan process, supporting the loan and return of school library system materials, maintaining necessary statistics, facilitating the database and cooperative collection development (CCD) purchases, preparing for workshops, and providing purchasing and budget support for the department. The position requires providing support to the School Library Services Coordinator, end-user support, interfacing with vendors, and diagnosing and troubleshooting issues related to library software. Work is performed under the direct supervisor of the School Library Services Coordinator and/or the Director of Instructional Support Services. Requires these general skills in addition to information listed under the Job Description of this document:
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Good knowledge of software maintenance and troubleshooting
- Ability to work with the technical jargon and translate that to the library workplace
- Working knowledge of MARC records (standardized bibliographic library records)
- Ability to form and maintain effective working relationships with districts, library staff, and vendors
- Ability to handle multiple priorities at once
- Demonstrates strong abilities with Microsoft and Windows software
- Organized; versatile; reliable; good judgment; self-starter
- Ability to lift a minimum of 20-40 lbs. regularly
